Hockey Quotes on Improving Your Game

Posted on 16:06 by Unknown

Hockey QuotesAlexander Ovechkin:
"My weapon isn’t my shot. It’s me."

Pierre Page:
"A player must be able to skate, have hockey sense, be able to shoot - not necessarily able to score - and have drive."

Sean Burke:
“It's too easy when you're not winning to look for excuses and point at others for reasons. You can say 'Oh well, it's this guys fault or they don't do this well' or you can say '

Breakaway Tip from Wayne Gretzky

Posted on 14:10 by Unknown
This video covers stick handling basics, but also includes a key tip for breakaways:Bring the puck back in close to your body to gain control before you shoot. If the puck is too far out in front of you, it will pick up speed, and bounce off the blade of your stick. The video also includes footage Adam Oates and Pat LaFontaine, Andrachuk, and Messier deking out their opponents, again keeping the

Standard Hockey Breakout Play

Posted on 15:53 by Unknown
Standard Hockey Breakout PlayThere are tons of different breakout plays and systems your team can use to quickly and safely move the puck out of your own end. Unfortunately our team doesn't practice, so we tend to keep things pretty simple on the ice. Typically we just use the standard breakout play.

Every player should be aware of the standard breakout play regardless of the position you play.

4 Reasons to Work on Your Backhand Shot

Posted on 09:47 by Unknown
The Backhand is a tough shot to master. Most players rarely practice their backhand, so why should YOU?Generally speaking, you should try to shoot on your forehand side whenever possible, but sometimes you have no choice but to shoot backhand.4 Reasons to Work on Your BackhandYou’re on a breakaway, the goalie is way out of the crease, so you decide to deke. How to Deke a Goalie

How to Deke a Goalie in Hockey
Here’s a shootout tip from Sportsnet color commentator, John Garret mentioned during the Canucks game Monday night against Colorado.

Deke or shoot?

Whenever you’re on a breakaway, if the goalie is way out of his crease, you have a better chance at dekeing, rather than shooting. The Goalie has cut off the angles, and there’s not much open net to shoot at.

If the

Shooting Tips: Backhand Shot

Shooting Tips: Wrist Shot

Posted on 21:46 by Unknown
One of the keys to a powerful, accurate wrist shot is to keep the blade of your stick in a straight path towards the target during the entire shot. The angle of your stick blade should also remain as flat to the target as possible.

It's a lot harder to control the direction of your shot when the puck is traveling in an arc-shaped path around your body. Changing the angle of your stick blade

Possession of the of puck switches teams over 100 time per game. Regardless of the position you play, you are constantly switching between offense and defense, both mentally and physically. You may be defensively covering your check one minute, and a tip of the puck, or a crazy bounce later, your team suddenly has the puck. Skating Tips: Upper Body Control

Posted on 18:43 by Unknown
A lot of ice hockey players are oblivious as to what their upper body is doing while they're skating fast. I've seen all kinds of different skating styles with various stick and arm positions. My favorite is the arms swinging side to side with each stride causing the stick blade to fly up towards my head. Annoying, and dangerous. So what are you supposed to do?Here's a few skating tips on upper

Up the Boards

Posted on 16:25 by Unknown
Rifling the puck up the boards is a great way to clear the puck from deep in your own end. Especially towards the end of a shift when your line is exhausted needs a line change.

Clearing the puck up the middle, on the other hand, can result in disaster if the other team gets to the puck while it's still inside the blue line. Whenever my brain shuts down and I screw up on this play, this guy on

Beer / Hockey Ratio

Posted on 21:26 by Unknown
While Balance, Agility, Strength, and Speed all play a vital role in playing hockey, the most important factor for your conditioning is your Beer / Hockey Ratio.During the winter season I usually play twice a week and quaff 3 or 4 beers after each game. Along with the occasional trip to the gym, I still manage to stay in (relatively) decent shape.Over the summer I play less than once a week and

How to Block Shots

How to Block Shots in HockeyBlocking shots is an exiting defensive play. Done properly, it’s a safe way to create an opportunity for your team to regain control of the puck.

Be Brave

The most important tip is to position your legs and body squarely in front of the shot. The puck should hit your shin pads straight on. If you’re afraid of getting hit by the puck and turn to the side, you risk

Don't Watch Your Pass

Posted on 11:31 by Unknown
Passing Tip: Give and Go Making a crisp, tape-to tape pass along the ice feels great. Passing is a huge part of the game, so when you pass the puck, it’s tempting to watch and make sure your team-mate receives the puck. If he scores as a result of your pass, you get an assist. Mission accomplished! For Example:Let’s say you’re playing wing and you’re deep in the corner of the offensive zone. You

Watch the Player, Not the Play

When the hockey player you’re taking off is nearing the end of their shift, keep a close eye on him. Watch him wherever he goes on the ice. Don’t take your eyes

How to make a Saucer Pass

Improve your Passing Skills

Better passing means getting the puck successfully to your teammate, even in tough situations. Sometimes you may need to pass the puck over an opponent’s stick or wayward limb strewn on the ice.

While you definitely need to clear the object you’re passing over, you don’t want to flip the puck too high in the air. This will make the puck
